Zara and Mika Lead Positive Change in their Community

This is an edutainment storybook featuring stories from children sharing their experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic. Through storytelling, the book provides tools that empower children to read and learn through play. Peer learning is experienced through other children's stories of courage, determination, hope, curiosity, action, and entrepreneurship.

The book equips children with critical life skills like exercising gratitude, building resilience, reflection, critical thinking, psychosocial skills, and social-emotional development. As a result, children are empowered to confidently tell stories in their voices and lead change in their families and communities.

Zara and Mika Lead Positive Change in their Community has been certified by the Ugandan National Curriculum Development Center for use in schools. In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, since the book launch in November 2021, we have distributed over 5,000 books to underserved communities, including refugee camps. In addition, the online version of the book has reached over 1.6 million people globally. The book is available in print, audio, video, and downloadable digital versions, in six languages (English, French, Swahili, Luganda, Acholi, and Runyankole-Rukiga), with plans to translate it to all major languages.

Impact of Reading & Storytelling

Covid-19 impacted the entire world, but we wanted to ensure that the children did not suffer. We provided resources so that they could be empowered with material and tools to ensure they were still reading and learning. Take a look at the impact that reading and storytelling has had.
